Ron Miles Quintet ft. Bill Frisell
In May 2019, Denver based cornetist and composer Ron Miles will introduce a new quintet comprised of some of his favorite musicians. His relationships with drummer Rudy Royston and guitarist Bill Frisell are longstanding and profound, with countless collaborations over more than two decades on the concert stage and in the studio. Numerous albums document their special kinship, including Miles’s albums for Gramavision (My Cruel Heart, Woman’s Day) and Sterling Circle Records (Heaven, Laughing Barrel) and several Frisell records for Nonesuch (Quartet, Blues Dream, among others). More recently, Frisell has also played on Ron Miles’s acclaimed Enja/yellowbird releases Quiver, Circuit Rider, and I AM A MAN. The new Quintet also features the great violinist Carla Kihlstedt with whom Ron Miles first played in 2001 in an ensemble led by clarinetist Don Byron performing Igor Stravinsky’s “L’Histoire du Soldat” at the famed Konzerthaus in Vienna, Austria. Closing the circle, cellist Hank Roberts is another frequent Frisell collaborator and has also played on Rudy Royston’s new album Flatbed Buggy.
