Telluride Blues Challenge Award-winning vocalist Merrian Johnson (MJ) and her funk and neo-soul band Last Nerve join forces with Colorado’s own “Queen of the Blues” Erica Brown and her blues and soul band Cast Iron Queens for a double bill of incredible music that will leave you wanting more!

Erica Brown is a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and actress who has long been a mainstay of Colorado’s music scene. From 1998-2008, as frontwoman for the award-winning Erica Brown Band, Brown electrified audiences all over the Rocky Mountain region with her band’s brand of searing blues rock. The band won nearly every award the region offered, including “Best Blues Band” (Westword), “Best Underground Blues Band” (Denver Post, multiple years), and the Rocky Mountain News’ “Best Of” in the Blues Category. The band released two critically acclaimed albums, Body Work in 2000, and Rough Cut Stone in 2003. Brown was dubbed “Denver’s Queen of the Blues” by the Altitude Network in their concert showcase feature “OnStage”, which was broadcast to five million households in ten western states in 2005. In 2008, Brown began her solo career, and in 2013 Brown was featured in Dan Treanor’s Afrosippi Band that garnered 3rd Place Honors in the International Blues Challenge sponsored by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN. Brown has also received the Five Points Jazz Festival’s Tribute Award for significant and lasting contributions to music and culture in the historically African-American Five Points neighborhood and throughout Colorado.

Merrian Johnson (MJ) has been wowing audiences with her amazing vocal gift for most of her life. She has always seen the world a bit differently and strives to bring the beauty she perceives out through her microphone. Johnson says, “I’m honored and excited that people want to hear what I’m doing, and I’ve really been gratified by the response I’ve received!” Yet this shouldn’t come as a surprise, for just one listen to her bright, powerful, crystal-clear vocals dispels the notion that this neo-soul child should be anywhere other than the stage! In 2013, Johnson joined forces with International Blues Challenge winners Dan Treanor and his band Afrosippi. Their 2013 CD entitled Tangled Road Again was hailed as an amazing effort and garnered great reviews in major magazines such as Living Blues and Blues Matters. In 2014, the Colorado Blues Society nominated Johnson for the International Blues Challenge’s Best Self-Produced CD. Johnson leads her own funk and neo-soul ensemble called Last Nerve and is also a member of the blues and soul group Cast Iron Queens. She has played prestigious festivals including the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, Bohemian Nights New West Fest, and A Taste of Colorado, in addition to supporting superstar acts such as the Neville Brothers and Soul of John Black.

Dazzle family and friends, we want to update everyone on our current approach to operations this spring and summer as the COVID-19 crisis levels out.  The Denver restaurant/venue closure is currently set to last through May 11th, after which we intend to re-open under semi-normal operations.  This, of course, is subject to change and may be affected by changing CDC social gathering guidelines.  Obviously, the health of our community is imperative, and we will enforce social distancing practices and improved sanitary practices by our employees.  Our staff and the musicians that we employ rely on our operation in order to make a living and this is the driving force behind our immediate re-opening.  We are currently reaching out to musicians to re-schedule shows that were affected by this crisis.  Please keep an eye on our calendar over the next few weeks in order to stay up-to-date on rescheduled and upcoming performances.  Hope to see you soon!
