A richly inspired vocalist and songwriter with a jazz-kissed soul style, Kenya performs her lyrically captivating compositions alongside jazz saxophonist Marqueal Jordan.
Chicago-based soul and jazz recording artist Kenya delivers smooth vocals with a blend of contemporary music. Her music has charted in the U.S. Top 30 Billboard Urban Adult Contemporary charts and Top 50 Smooth Jazz independent charts. Her most recent album My Own Skin reached the #1 spot for four consecutive weeks on the independent U.K. Soul Chart. Kenya is the recipient of Black Women in Jazz’s award for Best Black Female Rising Star Jazz Artist and is in the process of completing a new album entitled S.H.E. Kenya has opened for artists including Grammy award-winning R&B singer Lalah Hathaway, Rachelle Ferrell, Raul Midón, and Stokley Williams (Mint Condition), collaborated and recorded with legendary jazz saxophonist Gerald Albright, and shared the bill at various venues with leading recording artists such as Ledisi, Patti Austin, Bilal, Dwele, and many more. She has performed at the Capital Jazz Super Cruise, Essence Festival, Magic City Smooth Jazz in the Park, Blues Alley, and many other noteworthy venues both in the U.S. and abroad in the U.K. and Netherlands.
Saxophonist and vocalist Marqueal (“Mar-kwell”) Jordan is a Los Angeles native who has made Chicago his home for the past 20 years. His indelible talent is a virtual emporium of musical genres that encompasses R&B, soul, jazz, hip-hop, and pop. Aside from leading his own band, Jordan has shared the stage with some of the greats in music, such as Patti Austin, Avant, Peabo Bryson, Jonathan Butler, Will Downing, George Duke, Candy Dulfer, Floetry, Aretha Franklin, Larry Graham, Buddy Guy, Lalah Hathaway, The Isley Brothers, Al Jarreau, Marcus Miller, Eric Roberson, David Sanborn, Jill Scott, and Kirk Whalum, among others. No stranger to the spotlight, Jordan has performed as a featured artist at Capital Jazz Fest, Capital Jazz Supercruise, Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival, Lucille’s (NYC), Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, Smooth Jazz Cruise, and Subrosa (NYC), in addition to headlining at Suite Food Lounge (Atlanta), Perfect Note (Birmingham), The Promontory (Chicago), Blues Alley (D.C.), Baker’s Keyboard Lounge (Detroit), and Gallery Suite Jazz Series (Lansing, MI). Jordan also excels behind the scenes as a gifted songwriter and producer.
