Josephine Foster: Magical Songs
Josephine Foster – Vocals, Piano, Electric and Acoustic Guitars
“Effortlessly dissolves barriers between herself and her fellow musicians, between music and listener, between language and expression”
– Wire Magazine
Josephine Foster has lent her warbling mezzo-soprano and interpretive wit to nearly two decades of self-produced recordings, with songs rooted in early American folk-blues, classical art song, and Tin Pan Alley. MAS Eclectic is proud to present an intimate Sunday afternoon concert with this acclaimed artist as she performs music from her most recent double record Faithful Fairy Harmony.
Josephine Foster is a North American singer-songwriter from Colorado. Growing up she dreamed of becoming an opera singer, all the while penning her own songs. She is known to breathe new life into archaic forms, embodying the cultural archaeology of Harry Smith’s old weird America.
Foster has performed in diverse locales all around the world, her songs echoing in opera houses and punk rock basements, and at folk, jazz, classical, and rock festivals. All the while, her genre-defying music captures the ears and hearts of young and old, finding its home in a culture that unifies them all.
Foster’s recent 2018 double record set Faithful Fairy Harmony is her 12th release since her debut in 2005. She previously performed in the MAS series in September 2017.
