Ben Cohen – Electric Bass, Tuba, Vocals

Hal Aqua and The Lost Tribe play klezmer fusion music—an exuberant musical experience rooted firmly in traditional Jewish modes and melodies and driven by contemporary rhythms and danceable grooves. The versatile musicians who make up The Lost Tribe have a deep respect for their source material, from the evocative tunes of Eastern European Jews and Gypsies to the sinuous rhythms of the Middle East and Mediterranean. In the long-standing Jewish tradition of absorbing musical inspiration from surrounding cultures, The Lost Tribe steeps their songs in a broth spiced with rock, reggae, salsa, funk, and blues influences, serving up an irresistible party vibe. This performance includes songs from their latest CD Klezmer Without Borders, as well as new arrangements of Chasidic and Romanian tunes.

In addition to fronting The Lost Tribe, HAL AQUA serves as music director for B’nai Havurah, Denver’s Jewish Reconstructionist congregation; provides songleading at Temple Micah, a Denver Reform synagogue; and teaches classes, workshops, and seminars on Jewish world music. He organizes an annual Christmastime “KlezFest” at the Mercury Café, and the “Jews Do…” series at Swallow Hill Music—tribute concerts (to the likes of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon) performed by a wide range of Jewish musicians.

ANNIE AQUA plays violin with the pop-classical quartet Spinphony, Middle Eastern ensemble Zuruna, singer/songwriter LIAT, and Boulder-based klezmer band Hadgaba. She is also a visual artist, illustrator and watercolorist, specializing in Hebrew and English calligraphy. (https://www.annieaqua.com)

BEN COHEN is a multi-instrumentalist and musical renaissance man, playing styles from baroque to jazz to klezmer. He is currently playing accordion in the cast of the DCPA’s production of the award-winning Broadway play Indecent.

MIRIAM ROSENBLUM plays klezmer clarinet, recorder and tin whistle. She performs with baroque ensemble Semplice and teaches wind instruments in a wide range of world music styles.

MICHAEL PAFF is a sought-after drummer and percussionist who performs with Samba Colorado, Quemando, Mudra Dance Studio, and The Other Black. He has studied with masters of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian percussion, including Thomas Vanschoick, Ze Ricardo, Yamal Rima, and Carl Dixon.
