Denver Jazz Orchestra

Denver Jazz Orchestra

The Denver Jazz Orchestra brings its outstanding big band show back to Dazzle, with creative and energetic playing on tight and inventive arrangements by the likes of Stan Kenton, Count Basie, and many more!

The Denver Jazz Orchestra is a collection of 18 local-area professional musicians who gather to play some of the hottest big band jazz to be heard anywhere. Section leaders include Larry Campbell (sax), Scott Handler (trumpet), and John Hines (trombone), with Dave Rohlf (drums), Ron Jolly (piano), Tom Virtue (bass), and Tim Hurley (guitar) alongside the strong vocals of Donna DeVine.

The DJO is filled with top-notch players playing top-notch arrangements for big band. With styles ranging from Gordon Goodwin, Bill Holman and Count Basie to Bobby Shew, Stan Kenton, Eric Richards and Tom Kubis, they play charts that make you lean forward and take notice. The DJO also performs original commissioned works that you won’t hear anywhere else!

The DJO sets itself apart with its fairly rigorous rehearsal schedule, and the effort shows on the bandstand with tighter section play and strong solo work. The DJO regularly plays around Denver, but is always accepting corporate, event, and club dates for any venue that needs something a cut above the norm.
