Kristy Roome – Our Story
Couple’s Love Song: Thinking Out Loud- Ed Sheeran
We grew up 30 miles from one another, in neighboring towns in Upstate NY. Our worlds were very similar but separate, and if it wasn’t for the existence of online dating we probably would never have met. Right away it was obvious Paul was a genuine, sweet guy, and we both were looking for someone to share a great adventure. Our similar views of the world, and shared love of dogs made me fall in love with him.
Our first year of dating was a hard year for me professionally, and Paul quickly became my rock. I was laid off from my school psychologist job, and I decided it was an opportunity to move to Colorado, my dream since childhood. I accepted a job in Greeley; unfortunately, Paul wasn’t coming with me. I had ended my apartment lease and loaded up my Jeep before I realized I wasn’t ready to leave Paul behind. I put my dream of Colorado on hold to create a new dream together with Paul.
The next year we interviewed for jobs in Colorado, on the same day, at the same time. He interviewed for a company in Louisville, and I for a school position in Estes Park. It could have only been fate that we both were offered those exact jobs, and that was the start of our great adventure.
We’ve now been together 7 years. Paul is still my rock- I can’t imagine life without him. We’ve since spent our time exploring the beautiful Colorado landscape, and we recently bought a house. We’ve also been through the real life stuff; moves, deaths, job changes, and managing work stresses. We’ve expanded our “fur” family and began fostering rescue dogs. In October, Paul asked me the big question, and we’ve been officially engaged since.
I can’t wait to see what adventures are in store for us next.
7 years ago I walked into an Outback Steakhouse anxious to meet Kristy in person. I didn’t realize it, but the 5 minutes Kristy was late were the last 5 minutes I’d be alone. Once Kristy arrived, I was hooked.
We both wanted to leave NY, with Colorado as our top choice. That was almost reality about a year after we started dating, when Kristy received a job offer in Greeley. We spent a week packing her Jeep and figuring out how our relationship would work while I wrapped up affairs in NY and searched for a job in Colorado myself. In the end, Kristy stuck around another year and moved into my house, making it a home.
The next year, we were ready to leave NY. In a week we’d both interviewed in Colorado, accepted offers, and Kristy was starting her new job the following Monday. Saturday morning we packed up Kristy’s Jeep, and headed across country. In Pennsylvania we discovered the muffler hanging off the bottom of the jeep, and the engine light came on in Ohio. We packed the muffler in the car and prayed the engine would get us to Colorado. It did. The journey brought us closer together and dissolved any doubts either of us had that we couldn’t accomplish anything we set out to do, if we were together. To this day, I look back on that hectic journey and the life we were able to build from it.
On our seventh anniversary, I proposed and Kristy accepted. I love Kristy with all my heart and look forward to whatever comes next.
