Rico Jones, a senior at Denver School of the Arts, first picked up the alto saxophone at age 11 while in the fifth grade. Before even learning to read music it became clear that he had a keen ear for melodies, learning songs by ear.

In his first year attending Denver School of The Arts that Rico was formally introduced to jazz music through clinics and performances by such notables as Curtis Fuller and Kneebody.

In the ensuing years he has performed in ensembles such as, the Telluride Jazz Festival All- Star ensemble, the 2015 Grammy Band all-star ensemble and, Jazz Band of America.

He also had the opportunity to perform with artists such as Ernie Watts, Donald Harrison, Howard Levy, Greg Osby, Greg Gisbert, Jeff Coffin, Colin Stranahan, Hubert Laws, Terrell Stafford, Earl Clue, and Marcus Firillo. In 2015 he was chosen as one of 30 outstanding jazz musicians under the age of 30 by KUVO Jazz Radio.

After his final year of high school Rico looks forward to attending college in or near New York City to continue his study of music. His goal is to become part of the jazz scene around the county and tour internationally. He also plans to expand his musicality by collaborating with artists of different genres and cultural backgrounds.
