Kenwood Dennard has enjoyed a multifaceted, star-studded career as a performer, recording artist, and educator; including his current professorship at the illustrious Berklee College of Music. His technical prowess and polyphonic/polyrhythmic genius is emulated the world over amongst the legendary drummers of our time. His students include Wil Calhoun (Living Color), Nikki Glaspie (Nth Power), Adam Deitch (Lettuce), Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood) and Rick Allen (Def Leppard).
He has performed and/or recorded with such greats as George Clinton, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius, Maceo Parker, Harry Belafonte, Brand X, Joe Zawinul; and his own groups such as Meta-Jam All-Stars, the Real Thing, and Quintessence. His numerous recordings include Maceo Parker’s Life on Planet Groove, Sting’s Nothing Like the Sun, Live at Montreux with Miles Davis and Quincy Jones, Bushrock Reset, Kenwood Dennard’s Just Advance and the recent release of the live double CD Jaco Pastorious’ Word of Mouth Japan tour 1983 .
Over the past few years, Kenwood has performed with The Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes, Ernie Isley, Gil Evans Orchestra, Stanley Jordan Trio, Larry Coryell, Moe, The Funky Meters, Grey Boy Allstars, Karl Densen’s Tiny Universe, The Mike Dillon Band, Ryan Montbleu Band, Max Creek and Phish. He’s played at the Gathering of the Vibes, Moe.down, Strangecreek, Peach Fest, High Sierra Music Festival and Wormtown.
