Joyce Moreno – vocals
Kenny Werner – piano
An artist the great Antonio Carlos Jobim called “one of the best singers of all time,” Brazilian vocalist Joyce has been an international sensation since the early 1970s. The fearlessly creative American pianist Kenny Werner joins her for these duet performances that will showcase the blend of jazz classics and bossa nova from their new Pirouet Records release, Poesia. Now known by her full given name, Joyce Moreno, the singer first made an impact in Brazil with her 1968 debut album that featured arrangements by Dori Caymmi and songs by peers and then-unknowns Caetano Veloso and Toninho Horta. Since that auspicious start, Moreno has recorded over 20 albums and had her unforgettable songs recorded by artists including Flora Purim, Elis Regina, and Milton Nascimento. A longtime collaborator, Werner appeared on two of Moreno’s early 90s releases on Verve Forecast, 1991’s Language and Love as well as 1992’s Music Inside. A heavyweight player since the mid-1970s, he’s performed and recorded with an array of jazz giants, including Lee Konitz, John Abercrombie, Joe Henderson, Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland and Toots Thielemans. Werner’s bestselling book, Effortless Mastery, is a landmark guide for aspiring musicians, and he received the 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship Award for Music Composition.
